With a little help from my friends

October 11, 2009 – 9:59 pm

Today, I walked just over three miles with about 10,000 others in support of continuing to raise funds, support, and awareness for people affected by HIV and AIDS. Despite the chilly weather — and oh, was it chilly — it was a good walk, including a great view of Mt. Hood while walking along the waterfront. It was great walking with Team CC Slaughters, which was led by my dear friend (and purchaser of many of my drinks), Mark.

A favorite part of the walk was people-watching. Not in a judging way, but to see the various walks of life and circumstances and why they were walking. Their stories were on display, whether on a t-shirt showing that they’re walking in memory of or on behalf of someone, or through posters and photos showing loved ones.

Following the walk, I took full advantage of indulging in my favorite types of carbs — vodka and potatoes — during the after-party at CC Slaughters. Their tater tots are ridiculously addictive. In fact, it was the main reason I opted to head home after only a couple of hours of hanging out. I didn’t want Greg, Mark’s hubby, to order more because damn if I wouldn’t eat them.

It was a fun day for a good cause, well, two good causes: to continue support of the Cascade AIDS Project and to spend time with those near and dear in this crazy, little town I call home.

Addendum: Some of my darling friends post-walk. And yes, dear readers, I’m truly happy here.
